Oly Class of 74 Facebook Group
February 25, 2025
Our Facebook Group Oly Class of 74 has become unmanageable because of a plethora of people that are not from our group posting on our pages and asking for access. We kept the group Public for our 50th Reunion, but now we are bombarded with fake requests and posts. Currently we have over 150 requests to join our group, every week we get dozens of crazy posts that I have to delete.
Friend of Friends
Facebook privacy works on a “Friends of Friends” basis. In a group, it is important to know what happens there. If someone in the group accepts or has a “Fake” friend, that “Fake” friend will now automatically be “Friends of Friends” with everyone else in the group. These “Fake” friends can then nefariously harvest data from all these new friends.
+ Periodically review your “Friends” list to make sure they are who they say they are.
- View their profile.
- Do they have the same Friends as you do?
- Does their “About” Information match?
- Do the “Groups” they belong to look legit?
We have had several people try to join and they belong to dozens of Alumni groups to infiltrate! - Search their name on Facebook to see if they have multiple accounts that could be spoofed.
+ Search your own name on Facebook to see if you have any Spoofed Accounts!
Report any extra spoofed profiles to Facebook.

I have scrubbed the current group member list and have made the group private. Hopefully this will keep the actors at bay.
